Trump-linked crypto venture World Liberty Trust granted bank status in unprecedented move for president

3 min read

In a move that has sparked immediate political firestorms, a federal banking regulator has granted conditional approval for World Liberty Trust Co., a crypto venture linked to the Trump family, to establish a formal bank charter. This decision marks the first time in United States history that a company owned by the family of a sitting president has been given such status. By obtaining this charter through the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, the business can now issue its own stablecoins tied to the U.S. dollar, effectively cutting out third party middlemen and allowing the company to capture profits directly from large scale digital transactions.

The financial implications for the Trump family are substantial. According to recent financial disclosures, President Trump has already generated over 1.4 billion dollars in revenue from his various crypto endeavors. The shift toward becoming a chartered bank makes the platform far more attractive to institutional investors and foreign governments who prefer stable digital assets over volatile cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin. One notable example is an investment from Abu Dhabi’s state backed firm MGX, which poured billions into the company with plans to use these stablecoins for massive trades on the Binance exchange.

Democratic lawmakers have reacted with outrage, characterizing the move as an unprecedented conflict of interest. Senator Elizabeth Warren led the criticism, describing the approval as one of the most brazen acts of self dealing in the history of the American financial system. She pointed out that since the OCC falls under the umbrella of the executive branch, there is an inherent contradiction in having a president oversee a regulatory body that grants licenses to his own private businesses. In response, Senator Warren announced she is introducing legislation specifically designed to block what she terms systemic corruption within these types of arrangements.

The White House has dismissed these concerns, asserting that no conflict exists because the president’s assets are held in a trust managed by his children. While traditional blind trusts are typically overseen by independent trustees, spokesperson Anna Kelly emphasized that this arrangement ensures any actions taken by the president remain in the best interests of the public. Meanwhile, regulators at THE OCC maintain that they followed all standard statutory duties and ethical protocols during their review process. Although official approval remains conditional pending further capital increases, the path is now clear for World Liberty Trust to integrate deeply into both global finance and domestic banking infrastructure.
